Smart-Ready Wiring — What This Label Means
Your installation’s been designed for the future — ready for smart devices straight out the box.
- ✅ Permanent Line & Neutral at all lighting points
- ✅ Plastic backboxes throughout to reduce interference
- ✅ Smart accessory depth: supports devices up to 35 mm
- ✅ Built so you can add smart switches or sockets later without chasing walls or rewiring
Why It Matters
- Future-friendly: no wall damage when upgrading to smart controls
- Better signals: plastic boxes mean stronger Zigbee/Wi-Fi coverage
- Inspector-proof: follows BS 7671 design principles (Regs 132.1 & 444.1)
Using Your Smart-Ready Wiring
Add a hub and some devices — and you’re ready to go.
If you haven’t already, start small with plug-in smart gear like lamps or sockets.
Anywhere that needs wiring in (switches, relays, thermostats, etc.), always consult a qualified electrician.
Where It Applies
- Applies to lighting points and socket outlets
- Doesn’t apply to cookers, showers, or other high-load circuits (these are controlled at the CU or use deeper metal boxes)
The Regulations Behind It
- Reg 132.1 – Design: ensures safety and proper functioning for the intended use
- Reg 444.1 – Electromagnetic Disturbance: minimises interference between circuits and equipment
Your wiring follows BS 7671 good practice for future compatibility and EMC reduction.
